Do you realize it’s just a little over 6 months until Christmas?  That’s right, I said a little over 6 months….crazy talk I know.  Now, depending on how you look at it, that’s either a long time, or OH MY GOSH THE HOLIDAYS ARE UPON US.  In the travel world, it’s the latter.

I want to talk a little about Holiday travel, and in this case I am specifically speaking of THE holidays, Christmas and New Years, but this applies to all holidays.  Most people get the major holidays off from work, so most people think it’s going to be a great time to travel.  And it is, along with everyone else who had the same idea.

We are getting a lot of requests for travel during the Dec 19-Jan 5 time frame, and in all my years of being in this crazy industry, it’s always been hectic to travel during that time, but more importantly….always been more expensive.  I have an Economics degree and it’s all about supply and demand.  Supply is constant (until people start booking then it is severely diminished) and demand is as high as it ever is…..causing the market to push prices higher and higher.  The longer you wait to book, the higher the cost, because the supply is more diminished.

Our requests always come in “I want a deal for Christmas travel”…..and the deal is, there is not one.  It’s the same really for other holidays as well, we have people asking for July 4th now and the flights are just ridiculous because the flights are booked to higher priced classes of service.  This is all industry speak, but the longer you wait on a holiday trip, the more you are going to pay.  That’s the simple truth.

I want everyone to be able to travel when they have the time and want to travel, I want to make everyone’s dreams and wishes come true….that’s why I am posting this.  If you want to travel during THE holidays, it’s time to plan and purchase.  If you want to travel during Labor Day….NOW is the time, Thanksgiving, it’s almost too late.  And I know this from doing this for so long, if you have never thought about traveling during a holiday, you would not know this.

Rule of thumb….”minor” holidays…..President’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day….book at least 5-6 months in advance for best pricing.  Major holidays….Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s….book at least 8-9 months in advance for best pricing.  And remember, best pricing during holiday travel is not going to be the same as best pricing during non holiday travel times.

I hope this helps you with thinking about your holiday travels… us today to make holiday dreams come true!  Just please understand when we have to tell you that you have to be realistic with your dreams, especially around holidays.
